When I capture newborn photography in Minnesota, there’s always one question on the minds of parents I work with. “What If My Baby Doesn’t Sleep During Their Newborn Photos?”. A newborn photoshoot scheduled at home can bring up many doubts and concerns. But, by far, this is one that new parents are most anxious about.
The sweet family featured here is one of my most recent at-home newborn photoshoots. Through the details below, I’ll discuss how we included their furbaby in the photos I captured, along with what you can do if you are worried about your newborn being wide awake for their session.

At Home Newborn Photography in Minnesota
There are so many benefits to capturing at home newborn photos. One of the biggest is the ability to incorporate your family pet. So often, the families I work with ask if I am able to photograph their four-legged fur baby during their at-home newborn photoshoot. My answer is always yes!
I know that your furbabies are an essential part of your home and the love your family shares. Moreover, they are always such proud big brothers and sisters! The majority of this session took place in the baby’s gorgeous light-filled nursery featuring warm yellow details. With the family fur baby there by our sides, fitting into the frame.
Our time together also allowed Mom and Dad to step in front of the camera, snuggled sweetly with their adorable little one. This tiny boy was wide awake for most of the session and so curious about everything. It was really beautiful to see how he reacted to Mom, Dad, and of course, their tender pup.

My Top Tips For Newborn Photography At Home
What If My Baby Doesn’t Sleep During Their Newborn Photos?
First, not every baby is content to slumber away peacefully, and that is more than okay. In fact, I actually love it when babies are awake for part of their session. Those wide-eyed moments are so full of joy with big stretches, sweet, curious eyes, and a glimpse into their tiny personality.
Next, beautiful newborn photos captured in your Minnesota home are not dependent upon whether or not your newborn is asleep or awake. There is much more behind each and every newborn photoshoot. With the sole focus on your joy and growth as a family. In addition to enjoying those beautiful emotions, your session is also comprised of elements such as lighting, your space, attire, and your ability to come together as a family for this unforgettable moment of welcoming your sweet baby into the world.
Lastly, the idea behind your newborn photoshoot at home in Minnesota is to create a calm and soothing environment, one that is reflective of your home and your family. Over the years, my work as a newborn photographer has shown me the importance of setting a relaxing atmosphere over anything else. Creating a serene backdrop will contribute to remarkable newborn photos, regardless of whether your baby is asleep or awake.
