This beautiful family of 4 is commemorating the birth of their second baby. To celebrate their newest arrival, we planned an in-home photoshoot with Mom, Dad, big brother, and their sweet new baby. It is truly a beautiful thing to witness how siblings, at such a tender age, encounter one another. Big brother was absolutely enamored with his new sibling! 

Parents of toddlers are often anxious about their child participating in a photoshoot. After all, if you think about it from a toddler’s perspective, it can be a nerve-wracking experience to have a stranger in your home with a camera pointed in your direction. But, there is one thing I will always maintain in this department. Curiosity. Allow your child to warm up at their own pace, and allow them space to be curious about what is happening around them. But do this in a way that is natural and does not involve bribing or prompting.

While it may seem like an impossible-to-manage task, I can almost guarantee that a little curiosity will stir up the excitement needed for your child to participate in a photoshoot. Especially one centered around their brand-new baby sibling! During this session, Mom and Dad were so laid back. They focused on the memories they were creating with their two children as the moments unfolded. This gave big brother all the assurance he needed to feel at ease and love on his new baby sibling. The smile this sweet boy gave me while holding his sibling is one that will positively melt your heart.

In-Home Photography

Life with a newborn is not always conducive to scheduling a session at a busy photography studio. Many of my families crave the comfort and ease of a photography experience centered around their home. This provides them with the assurance of having everything they need within their grasp. It also provides them with the peace of mind needed to have photos taken of their newborn in a safe environment. In-home photography with a newborn also allows us to set our own pace, without worrying about the rushed setting of a photography studio. We can accommodate our time together to enable feedings and changings. All while being mindful of creating a joyous and fun experience for older siblings.

One of the many concerns that comes to mind for the families that I work with is the background of their photos. I have been lucky enough to have worked with this adoring family a number of times (4 to be exact!). In fact, the first time I met them was after the arrival of their first child, who now proudly wears the title of ‘big brother’. During big brothers newborn session, we utilized their beautifully designed master bedroom as our backdrop. Understandably, Mom wanted to do something a little different for her newborn, while still creating an enjoyable in-home photography experience.

For their newest bundle, we chose to utilize both their living room and a portion of their master bedroom as our backdrop. These spaces provided us with the continuity from big brother’s newborn photos, while also granting me a varied background that would allow me to reflect on this new chapter in growing their family.
