More and more, families are searching for ways to capture newborn photos at home. Allowing them the space and privacy to enjoy a photography experience that is easy-going and laid back. That was the goal of the session featured below for this sweet family of three. After they welcomed their beautiful daughter into the world, they were looking for a way to honor her arrival.
But it was important to them to do it in a way that felt authentic. That meant scheduling time in their home to focus on what this moment means to them after becoming a family of three. They had one special request that I was more than happy to accommodate. To include their adorable furbaby throughout the photoshoot as well.
Truthfully, it’s not uncommon that I receive requests to work with the family dog or even the cat. I know they are part of the heartbeat that makes a house a home. Including them in your newborn photoshoot is a way to honor their presence while celebrating this special time in your lives.

Newborn Photos at Home
When I work with families on newborn photos at home, we typically select an area of the house that provides the most natural light. For this family, we focused our session on their main bedroom, along with their living room. These two spaces were positively flooded with heaps of natural light, which is exactly what was needed. Thus allowing us to set the tone for the easy-going and laid-back session they were hoping for.
The idea of capturing newborn photos at home can leave many families filled with concern that their home isn’t “perfect”. I’m sure you might’ve had the same thought when searching for local newborn photographers for your own family. While there are a few ways to prepare for newborn photos at home, a full home makeover isn’t part of the process. Oftentimes, any corner of your home that has been decluttered and offers gorgeous light is all we need to create magic. The concerns you feel about your home are completely valid. However, there are a few small ways you can prepare your home for newborn photos. You can find more details on that in this guide.

Scheduling Your Newborn Photoshoot
Moreover, while tidying your home may be on your mind, outfit selection is just as important for your newborn photography experience. Neutral complementing colors are best, and no, you don’t have to go shopping or purchase a new wardrobe. Unless, of course, you’d like to. Anything currently in your wardrobe that you feel comfortable in is an amazing choice for stepping in front of the camera with that sweet baby of yours.
And yes, as parents, I will always encourage you to enter the frame. The focus of our time together will be largely centered around your beautiful newborn. But this time is just as meaningful to you. So I always support stepping into the scene to capture the magic of cradling and loving your sweet baby while in the the comfort of your home.
