This sun-filled newborn photography session in Minneapolis MN took place during the winter. It’s hard to believe the winter sun could provide such a warm glow, illuminating each detail of this session. But it’s true. Typically, when I work with sweet families on newborn photography in Minneapolis MN, one of the things I discuss with them ahead of time is using the sun to our advantage. In fact, once our session is scheduled I send them a newborn welcome guide in order to help them prepare for their session. I always kindly ask that they open all the blinds in their home and turn off all the lights before my arrival. For the session below, Mom and Dad followed my newborn guide to a tee. Their proactivity helped the session run so smoothly, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
There was one small detail, however, that we couldn’t exactly plan for in advance. When filling out my questionnaire, Mom asked if it would be possible to include the family cat in their session. Their sweet black feline with bright glowing eyes is part of their loving family. However, as is the case with most cats, this kitty was a tad shy when I entered their home. Nevertheless, I was determined to make this newborn photography session in Minneapolis MN special for this adorable family of 4. Needless to say, with the kitty’s eventual cooperation, I was able to capture some stunning photos that included baby and kitty.

This tender little baby boy was an absolute dream to photograph. He was snug as a bug in a rug, dreaming away sweetly the entire session. Undeniably, he loved the warm comfort and love of being held tight in Mom and Dad’s arms. Which made our time together all the more advantageous.
When I first arrived at their home, we began their session in the living room. The sun was streaming through the windows so beautifully that I couldn’t resist taking advantage of the moment. The overall goal of the session was to capture stunning photographs of the entire family. But also to focus solely on baby boy, marking his momentous entrance into the world.
Once we finished up portraits in the living room, we went upstairs to work in his picturesque nursery. Preparing the nursery is one of the things parents look forward to most when welcoming their baby. Oftentimes, in hindsight, a nursery can also feel like a space where our children spend so little time. Photographing this space allows you to hold on to the cherished memories of preparing for their arrival, and the nights spent carefully placing them down in their crib.

We finished up the session by heading into Mom and Dad’s bedroom, where the baby’s bassinet was carefully placed within their reach. In addition to Mom and Dad readying their home ahead of my arrival, Grandma was visiting from out of town. She was such a sweet helper, making everyone comfortable and cared for, and dashing from room to room to pick up small items that were in the way. It’s always a joy to be in the presence of a beautifully loving and caring family.
