Two weeks ago, my husband and I took a last minute trip to his home state of Michigan, to spend a little summer getaway with his family in Muskegon. This was a super last minute trip, with nothing planned besides visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes. Little did we know that there was a big storm that went through Sleeping Bear Dunes, just days before knocking out trees and power to the surrounding area. One of the park guides told us that there were up to 100 mph winds, and that they wouldn’t be able to open the park back up until everything was clear. It made for a long 6 hours in the car, but thankfully we were able to make it back to our resort before sunset to jump in the water.
My husband use to tell me that I haven’t seen a lake until I have seen Lake Michigan. It was kinda hard to believe him since I have grown up in that state that has over 10,000 lakes. Little did I know how beautiful, clean, and refreshing Lake Michigan is. I absolutely love every time we are able to go back and visit the clear blue water, white sandy beaches, and sand dune coast. This time while heading back we decided to take the long route home through the UP. We made a stop in Petoskey and found an amazing coffee shop called Dripworks Coffee. This town and coffee shop are a must if you find yourself in the UP of Michigan. We also made a stop in Mackinaw City for lunch, fudge, and to visit the beach where Lake Huron, is on one side of the Mackinaw Bridge, and Lake Michigan, is on the other. One day we hope to have enough time to stay on Mackinac Island for a few days, but until then we will enjoy all the other beautiful places on Lake Michigan.

Mackinac Island and the famous Grand Hotel in the white.
