I never thought my career would lead to birth photography. I have loved photographing families but have always considered births to be so intimate. I wasn’t sure if it was something I wanted to open myself up to as a photographer. My opinion changed when my friend Krista asked if I would consider photographing the birth of their third child. Krista has been able to photograph a few births and mentioned how rewarding and incredibly beautiful it is. After thinking it through, I decided to give it a try and am so glad I said yes.

In the wee hours of the morning I walked into the birth room and was welcomed by Krista asking if I got some good sleep. I could only laugh because she is always making sure everyone is well taken care of and comfortable. Even when she has labor since the day before! This labor was long and felt like a slow progression at times for Krista but she always stayed super positive, joyful, and never gave up on delivering naturally. She was surrounded by an amazing support team of her husband, mom, nurses, and doula to help welcome their baby into the world. When the doctor announced they welcomed a baby boy, there was not a dry eye in the room. Krista was in complete shock that she had a boy and it was a complete joy capturing this moment for them. This birth was incredible, beautiful, and one that I will never forget.
