MEET Kristen

A question I get from clients all the time is how can we prepare your home for newborn photos. That’s a totally valid question, as you may not know where the photos will take place in your home.

Below, I’m sharing my top 3 ways to prepare your home for your newborn photos.

Less is more

I always remind my clients that less is more! Do a quick decluttering of the space that you and your photographer talked about taking photos in. I suggest having your significant other remove burp clothes, diapers, wipe container, monitors, bouncing chair, etc. from the space. Stick with the bare necessities in the room and on the changing table.

The focus should be on the connection of the family rather than everything in the room. By simplifying and removing items, you will prepare your home for newborn photos.

Turn the temperature up in your home

Babies like to be warm. Adjust your home to be warmer by two degrees or so. This will help keep your baby calm and comfortable during clothing and swaddling changes.

A reminder to not up your heat too much where your family feels uncomfortable. Again, just a degree or two will help prepare your home for newborn photos.

Talk to your photographer about the brightest room in your home

While most newborn photos take place in the nursery, master bedroom or living room I always suggest talking to your photographer about what space in your home that offers the best natural light. You will want to make sure all lamps and overhead lights are off. Remember to open blinds all the way to offer the best natural light.

I typically photograph newborn session from the house of 10 a.m.-1 p.m., as this seems to be the best time for natural light in the home.

As you prepare your home for newborn photos, I’m always happy to answer your questions. However by keeping everything simple, it will draw the attention to the connection of your family and the love for your little one.

If you’re ready for me to capture your newborn photos, I’d love for you to contact me and we can set up a quick phone call.
