If you’re a Mom, you can check out my 3 things to consider for your outfit for newborn photos.

Communicate expectations

Most men aren’t overly excited to take photos. This is because they typically don’t have an expectation of what’s to come and why it’s so important to you.

Before the photo session, it’s important to have a conversation beforehand to educate and tell him why you chose the session and with what photographer. Communication beforehand can often iron out any confusion that Dad may have going into the newborn photos.

3 tips to make Dad outfit a success

  1. Start with the color palette you and baby are wearing and work from there.
  2. Pick out tops and bottoms that will work with the color palette. Lay it out ahead of time so he knows exactly what shirt and pants you were hoping for.
  3. Thirdly, keep Dad outfit ideas simple. We want to focus on the connection of dad and baby rather than the boldness of dads outfit.

Typically, Dad clients wear a light blue or white button down shirt with a pair of khaki or nice jeans. I love this look as it can have a dressed up feel or sometimes dads roll up their sleeves for a more casual look.

If Dad prefers a pattern to his button up, consider a simpler pattern to ensure the pattern isn’t too busy for the eye. Again, our focus wants to go to the baby instead of the clothing. Stick to your color palette to ensure that everyone’s outfits will be complemented.
