Looking for ideas and inspiration for an outfit for newborn photos? I’ve got you.
One of the biggest questions I get from my newborn clients is, “What should I wear as a mom during this season?” That’s a totally valid question!
During this season of healing, as your body has changed over the course of nine months, it can be hard to think of what will feel most comfortable during newborn photos. Does this sound like you? I’m here to help!
Below, I’m sharing 3 things to think about when choosing your outfit for newborn photos during this season of healing.
Feel fresh in something new
This is a season where you might not quite feel like yourself. That’s OK! A fresh outfit you feel good in will go a long way. Pick an outfit for newborn photos that makes you feel good in the moment you are in.
Consider color palette
When picking clothes, I recommend keeping in mind the word “complement” rather than “match.” A good rule of thumb: pick three colors and spread them throughout the family. I always suggest trying to stick with softer and neutral tones. We want the focus to be on your baby and the connection, rather than bright clothing. Often red, bright pinks and neon colors can cast unflattering colors onto the skin which I why I don’t often recommend those particular colors.
Don’t be afraid to mix a few subtle patterns or textures to add a layer of interest.
Comfort is key in outfit for newborn photos
Being relaxed is important, so pick an outfit for newborn photos that feels good against your skin and moves easily with your body. Cotton, linen, silk and cashmere are natural fibers that will feel decadent against your skin and put you at ease. I’ve found longer dresses, that are nursing friendly, are often the most flattering during this season of motherhood.
Be yourself
Remember, these are all just suggestions and what I see best for photos. The most important thing is I want you to feel comfortable in your outfit for newborn photos. Pick what is best for you!
