In November, Ryan and I traveled to St.Thomas Virgin Islands for a week to celebrate my birthday. We decided early on in our marriage, that we would rather save the money we would spend on gifts and have it go towards travel and adventures together. We love being able to look back on our travels and cherish all the memories we get to share and experience with one another. I have been wanting to go to St.Thomas for about a year now so I was excited when the date got closer and we booked tickets to visit. Since it was the end of hurricane season we knew there could be a possibility of us canceling our trip. Thankfully there were no hurricanes in site so we were able to go! However, we did have a lot a cloudy days with some rain, but we still made the most of our time.
We love Airbnb so we knew we would book the majority of the time in a condo and then a hotel stay for just two days. It worked out perfectly because the places were completely different. Our Airbnb was a small little places nestled in the lush green hill side overlooking St.John. Every morning we would open our sliding glass door to the patio and let the fresh ocean air breeze in. This was the best view to wake up to.
Each day we would pack a cooler for a lunch picnic and choose a new beach we were going to explore and snorkel at. Luckily, I know a girl from high school that lives on the island that was willing to give us so many tips on the best beaches, where to find the reefs, what to eat on the island and what to watch out for. She took us out one day to one of her favorite reefs pointing out so many different kinds of fish and coral. One day she even let us set sail on the ‘Cat’ for a dinner cruise and snorkeling with the sea turtles!
There were so many highlights from the trip but some of our favorites were:
- Snorkeling at a different beach every day despite the rain
- Driving on the opposite side of the road in an American car
- The white sandy beaches
- Visiting St.John for the day
- Swimming with the sting rays in the morning
It was an incredible week in St.Thomas and we can’t wait to visit the other islands around it some day!
A day travel over to St.John.
There are wild donkeys everywhere on the island that love to come to the beach to play.
