Enjoy Styled Shoot Workshop: Shafer, MN

Last month, Erin Johnson, who is one of the 50 Most Inspiring Photographers posted that she was planning to host a styled wedding workshop. I couldn’t wait to sign up to get a head start on new inspirations for this year’s weddings.

The event was held at the charmingly Bloom Lake Barn– owned by the wonderful Adam and Monique Wallis in Shafer, MN. This styled shoot was so distinctive and perfectly placed in the woods. Sarah from On Solid Ground Vintage Rental and other local vendors thought of every detail. Everything was perfect and unique- from the flowered chandelier to the intricate place settings. I would like to give my sincere thanks to all of the vendors that helped to make this workshop outstanding.

Owen: little Colorado visitor

My cousin Lindsay and her family flew into Minnesota a few weeks ago to visit family. While they were in town, I had the pleasure of watching her son Owen and having the family stay overnight!  The last time I saw the two of them, he was only a month old. I posted an earlier blog about  our girls’ family vacation to welcome him into the family. He is now a very happy 7 month old that is sitting up, rolling every which way, and lighting up the room with his big blue eyes and happy smile. I couldn’t help but capture his happy self all snug in our bed. owen_deluca_lifestyle_kristen_dyer_photography

Tyler & Lauren: Hanska, MN

Tyler and Lauren had a gorgeous Saturday afternoon wedding. It was all about the delicate details–from their ceremony tucked away in a tiny church set in a true Midwestern corn-filled field to the simplicity of their decorations. We enjoyed driving the windy roads of Hanska, MN to find the perfect spot for their bride and groom portraits. These two radiated pure joy to each another and all of their guests. It was a honor to witness and capture their wedding day.

Kevin & Rachel: James J. Hill Library

Rachel and I have known each other since elementary school. We grew up together and I have the best childhood memories of playing tennis, rollerblading, and talking about boys with her. During college, Rachel and I didn’t see each other much, but when we did, we always spent hours catching up over breakfast and tea. While attending one of my cousin’s weddings, Rachel sat with my husband and I. She updated us on her life and let us know that she was dating a guy named Kevin and it just felt ‘right’. She had a twinkle in her eye and the biggest smile on her face when she was telling me all about him. Right then and there, I knew she found her man. Soon after she asked to meet up for breakfast, told me she was engaged and asked me to photograph her wedding! Of course I said yes. I was beyond excited for her and Kevin.

Their wedding day was filled with so much laughter and happy tears. Kevin and Rachel’s organizational skills resulted in one of the most stress free and laid back weddings for their wedding party, vendors and guests. Their outdoor ceremony took place at Rice Park in St. Paul. Afterwards, their close family and friends celebrated with a dinner and a variety of homemade pies at the James J. Hill library. I cherished the opportunity to give Kevin and Rachel tangible reminders of that wonderful day.

The DeLuca Family: Colorado Lifestyle Session

The end of last October couldn’t come fast enough for our all girls weekend trip to meet the newest family members. Half of us hopped on a plane and the other half took the long drive to Colorado to welcome Owen to the family. We all arrived shortly after one another and immediately started snuggling, kissing, ooing and awing over this sweet bundle of joy. Lindsay is the first niece of our family to have a little one and she holds so much beauty, patience, joy and love as a mother. All of us nieces learned so much from her and her mothering while we visited.

After our family member left on Sunday morning I decided to stay a little long to spend some time with my Lindsay, Joey and Owen. Seeing these two transition to parents has been flawless. They are filled with so much encouragement, love, laughter and beauty. I am so thankful I decided to have a later flight out so I could steal some extra snuggles with Owen and girl time with my cousin Lindsay and her sister Alicia on a scenic mountain walk. It is hard having them so far away, but we enjoy all the Instagram and Facebook posts of Owen and their hikes in the mountains as a family.

Chris & Alicia: Colorado sunrise session

Last October, we took an all-girls family weekend trip to Colorado to welcome my cousin’s first baby boy. We were also able to  celebrate the engagement of another cousin, Alicia to her fiancé Chris. The three of us plus their dog Willy went out for an early morning sunrise session in Loveland, CO. The morning was crisp, but beautiful with the sun rising. It highlighted the mountains behind us. It was a wonderful morning and we were entertained as Willy chased after anything in reach. We continued the morning with chai tea and family filled around the table. After breakfast, Alicia and Chris took us on a hike to Devil’s Backbone where he proposed to Alicia. It was a beautiful hike to see where their engagement journey started. These two are such a wonderful and adventurous couple. I can’t wait to attend their wedding and join all of our family members as we gather around them in Minnesota this June.  chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography chris_alicia_colorado_kristen_dyer_photography

Punta Cana: Dominican Republic

Three weeks ago, we packed our bags and boarded the plane to find some warmer weather, sunshine, and sand. Our usual travel plans consist of busy cities and lists of things to do and see. However this year, we decided to try something new. We settled on the Dominican Republic after hearing of the gorgeous white, sandy beaches and beautiful seascapes. We knew we wanted a small, intimate resort and quickly fell in love with the Sanctuary. This resort is in the private gated community of Cap Cana. While the main goal of our trip was to relax, of course we had a to-do list that would allow us to explore the island. Surprisingly, after we arrived at the Sanctuary, we didn’t want to leave. We only managed to venture out of the resort once to visit one of the sister resorts. For the most part, we learned to relax by spending long days by the beach and visiting with other travelers. We had an amazing time and I foresee many more beach travels.
